Austin and I went to Cancun for our honeymoon. After a long flight to North Carolina (weird, no?), a long layover, and another flight... we made it to our destination! We jumped on a shuttle and were whisked away to our hotel. An all-inclusive resort? Yes, please! We loved it. We were right on the beach with access to the crystal-blue ocean. Our hotel was all-you-can-eat & drink all the time. There was a buffet-style restaurant open all the time, plus a cafe with the most amazing lime pie ice cream in the world! There was also a seafood restaurant open most of the day and then two really fancy restaurants open in the evening in addition to everything else that required reservations. One was Italian, and the other Oriental. They were both amazing. We're talking full on starters, appetizers, soups, entrees, and dessert. AND palette-cleansers in between. Loved it. Our first day there we just crashed and played at the beach and reveled in all the food available. Day 2 was a day at the resort... laying on the beach, playing ping-pong, sitting in the jacuzzi, and of course, more food. Day 3 we decided to do an excursion. We went to some ancient Mayan ruins at Telum and then went to a natural water park (Xel-Ha). It was also all-inclusive. This place was amazing. It was basically in inlet from the sea, or a natural aquarium park on the Riviera Maya. You could snorkel, float on tubes, cliff jump, rope climb, zip line, ride bikes through the jungle, or just hang on hammocks. We loved this place. We explored the entire park (which is huge) and tried to do every activity. Our favorite was snorkeling. The water is crystal clear, and the fish were out of control. I loved/hated it (fish sometimes freak me out... especially when they are close to my face). We didn't take any pictures (we should have gotten one of those cheap under-water disposable cameras), so I stole some from the website so you can just see how cool it was.
Yeah, no, that't not me. Or Austin for that matter. Anywho, it was a great day. And exhausting. Day 4 we walked into the city and shopped around the markets. I got a fun little swim dress, and we decided to buy lunch in town. We also went to every food store/mini market we could find so that Austin could look for his favorite snacks he missed from Mexico. We were pretty successful and ate so much crap.
Day 5 we laid on the beach once more, ate our final lemon pie ice cream, and were off on the shuttle again to catch our flight home. Sad day. It was such a relaxing vacation to be away from all the stresses of real life. No phones, no internet, nothing. Bliss. Made it back home the day after Thanksgiving so we still had a few days left off work. Luckily there were some leftovers for us too. Here's some pictures... and hopefully a video of our iguana friend we met (apparently it's not gonna happen).
And there you have it.
